Director of Admissions

The Director of Admissions is a member of the senior staff, reporting to and working directly with the President and Head of School. The Director of Admissions is responsible for developing and managing all recruitment efforts including planning, coordinating, and implementing all prospective student programs and admission processes. Given the unique nature of The American Boychoir School, this person will work closely with the School’s Music Director, Dean of Academics and Dean of Students to identify those students most appropriate for the School through a musical audition, academic evaluation and community life assessment.

The Director advises and makes recommendations to the President and Head of School regarding admissions and enrollment policies and procedures, and oversees the Admissions staff. The Admissions Office also guides the Financial Aid process.

The ideal candidate will be creative and entrepreneurial by nature, will be committed to the mission of The American Boychoir School, and will be excited by the challenge of working within the niche of prospective students served by this unique institution.

Director of Annual Fund and Alumni Relations

This unique educational institution and arts organization is seeking a dynamic, motivated individual who is committed to the mission of the school and capable of developing relationships with a variety of important friends of the organization. The Director of Annual Fund & Alumni Relations shall be responsible for support of the Annual Fund through event coordination, individual donor cultivation through relationship building and the Annual Fund Program; active participation and leadership in all alumni related events, activities and communication; supporting the Vice President – Development, department functions at all levels and special assigned projects with skillful communication, both verbal and written, at all levels in order to ensure smooth workflow in a complex environment.

The ideal candidate will have experience in fundraising and will understand philanthropy in both educational and arts institutions; have demonstrated success in procuring funding from individuals, corporations, foundations and government; and will be adept in the use of databases and other technological tools pertinent to fundraising.

Director of Vocal Studies

The Director of Vocal Studies is in charge of the vocal technique and music theory training of all the student body at the American Boychoir School. In addition, the Director of Vocal Studies prepares the first year choristers for the musical and social demands of the concert choir, ensuring a smooth transition into the professional ensemble. This will be done through their participation in the Training Choir. The Director of Vocal Studies reports to the Music Director, and supervises Music Theory Instructors and the Accompanist for the Training Choir. The ideal candidate will be an experience vocal coach, choral conductor and music educator, and will have direct experience working with the young male voice.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Teach Vocal Technique to all choristers: Create and develop a Vocal Technique curriculum. Provide regular coaching and instruction, individually and collectively, in close consultation with the Music Director, aiming for uniformity and soundness of tone production in accordance to the demands of a professional boychoir.

  • Coordinate and oversee the Music Theory program at the school. This includes teaching a Kodaly-based music theory/literacy class, as well as supervising additional music theory instructors as needed. The primary goal of music theory study at The American Boychoir School is to enrich the experience of the choristers by providing them with deep understanding of the repertoire from analytical, theoretical and cultural perspectives. In addition, sight-singing is an essential part of the curriculum, as we value high levels of sight reading for both the efficiency of the concert choir, but also as acquisition of a life-long skill set.

  • Rehearse and manage the Training Choir: Plan and conduct all Training Choir rehearsals. In consultation with the Music Director, select repertoire suitable to the vocal and musical development of the trainees. Assess the progress of each trainee regularly, as it pertains to their level of readiness towards the demands of the Concert Choir. The Training Choir is not a performance-based choir, but rather, the purpose of this ensemble is to prepare the choristers for the rigorous demands of the Concert Choir. That being said, this ensemble does occasionally perform, and the Director of Vocal Studies will plan and conduct any Training Choir public performances, including a brief annual tour.

  • Hear auditions by prospective American Boychoir School students as needed as well as, in consultation with the Admissions Department, aid in the recruitment of prospective members.

  • Participate as instructor and/or conductor in the Summer Camp Sessions offered by the American Boychoir School as needed and determined by the Music Director.
